Uma Ramakrishnan hails from a family adept in rich classical music. The tradition of bhajan sampradaya runs in her family starting from her grandfather Bhagavatha Thilakam Late P R Sankara Iyer.
Uma started learning Carnatic music from her aunt at the age of 7. She had the oppurtunity to learn further from 'Sangeetha Kala Ratna Kerala MS� Smt Jayalakshmi Srinivasan and Chitravina P Ganesh and Dr Shriram Parasuram. Uma has also acquired knowledge in laya aspects from guru Shri Mannarkoil J Balaji.�
Though Uma is an internationally Certified Travel Consultant, she left the glamourous profession to pursue her passion.�
Uma has been performing classical and devotional concerts from the age of 16 in various prestigious venues in Chennai, Coimbatore, Bangalore & Kerala. She was living in Brussels, Belgium from the year 2016, where she had been propagating Carnatic music through her performances and workshops under the aegis of IndiRaga Belgium, The Indian Cultural Centre, Brussels and India Education Centre Brussels (IECB).�
Uma has also performed fusion concerts collaborating with Hindustani, western classical and jazz musicians for Sitardust, Belgium.�
