  • Major Donor Rtn.Balasubrahmanyan donated Rs.5 lakhs to Project Blossom - the special project of Dist 3230 for RY 2009-10.
  • RCMC was bequeathed a will to have title to the proceeds from the sale of a property worth Rs.18 lakhs at Adyar by Mrs.Shanta Subramanian a classical carnatic musician after her time. RCMCians grateful to her and her nephew Rtn.PP.Sankaranarayanan who recommended RCMC to her.
  • By a fund raising initiative of staging a play by comedian and theatre personality MLA S.Ve.Shekar at Naradaganasabha on 24th Oct' 09, RCMC mopped up the corpus for its flagship Karnavidya project.
  • Dedicated to the cause of Karna Vidya, the flag ship project of RCMC , Ann Shyla Viswanathan and Ann Sashi Subramanian continued to lead the movement in its 10th year serving over 200 visually challenged college students from its two learning centres in T.Nagar & Adyar centres and with its digital library at Adyar.
  • RCMC recognised and honoured the services of selfless volunteers from a cross section of society viz: Retired academicians, serving professionals & home makers and socially conscious student community in its tenth anniversary celebrations of Karna Vidya held on 7th March'10 which event also brought the karna vidya alumni together.
  • RCMC held its 5th year edition of Parallel Music Fest on 3rd December coinciding with the world dis-ability day - A different music fest for the differently abled artistes at the Music Academy sponsored by Airtel for the 4th consecutive year. Padma Vibhushan and Sangita Kalanidhi Mridangam legend Umayalpuram Sivaraman was the chief guest. Leading limbless artiste Kalaimamani S.R.Krishnamurthy from Coimbatore performed accompanied by Violin Maestro M.Chandrasekaran.
  • RCMC continued to lead the district in its Polio Eradication efforts under the passionate leadership of Rtn.PP.Pandu as chairman polio by immunising 28296 children on the NID held on 10th Jan’10 and 29153 children on the follow up NID held on 7th Feb’10 covering 7 villages spread over 12 sq km by setting up 55 booths including 3 mobile booths and one transit booth covering migrant population.
  • As against a commitment by President of US $ 3000 contribution for TRF in PETS, the club contributed US $5550 to TRF with over a dozen members’ sustaining contributions to be continued year after year as well.
  • Club contributed over Rs.50000 for the Melinda Bill Gates challenge to Dist 3230 when a fund raising effort was done by District in Aug’09 through the talk of Alma mater founder Shri T.T.Rangarajan.
  • RCMC on its charter Nite on 22nd Feb'10 conferred the Vocational excellence award on Dr.V. Viswanathan - a leading Paediatric Neurologist for his pioneering efforts in setting up a school for children afflicted with muscular dystrophy in chennai.
  • On 5th Feb’10, RCMC conferred the Karma Veera award on Mr.Kalaiselvan Head of the Okkiam Government Higher secondary school who had shown his commitment to the school in action by simultaneously improving the academic standards as well as the school infrastructure.
  • mega health camp was organised in Adyar on 21st March’10 jointly with the assistance of club’s Past President Dr. Hari Ramesh’s Swaram Hospital and Dhruv Clinic covering over 327 citizens above 45 years of age for early detection of osteoporosis and osteo arthritis.
  • Project Selvi initiative was sustained for the third consecutive year. At Avvai Home where girl children from under privileged section of society study and where the club has an affiliated Interact club, “English Speaking Skills” course within the school premises for boosting the self confidence and self esteem of the children was taught by faculty from “VETA” the best in the field to 40 students funded entirely by RCMC.
  • At the corporation school in Adyar, wherein Computer training after school hours for a batch of 40 students was commenced three years back was continued for the third year in succession as digital literacy is key to moving up funded entirely by RCMC.
  • District Mini-grant of US $ 2000 was received for Project Health Awareness.
  • With silver jubilee year of RCMC approaching in another three years from now, RCMC set up its Club Archives which was inaugurated by DG W.Anand on 20th Dec’09 at Rtn.PP. Sankaranrayanan’s residence who was gracious enough to roof the archives for keeping the club memorabilia & be its first custodian.
  • Project Literacy was inaugurated on 27th March’10 by Dist Chair Rtn.George with Trustee of Nalamdana Mrs.Nithya Blaji present as a guest of Honour. Considering the paucity of time available in RY 2009-10, this would be taken up as an ongoing project in several phases. In the first phase 20 illiterate women are being taught by two local volunteers from the vicinity to qualify as Literates under the Govt notified guideline of undertaking an examination after 100 days of classes.
  • New Generations: Youth Service Director Rtn.PHF.Anand ably supported both the Rotaract clubs for the second consecutive year. With an active coordinator in Ms.Amrita, faculty at Dr.MGR Janaki college, this Rotaract club continued to outperform the Government college of Physiotherapy though it would be worthwhile to mention both these clubs won the RI citation for RY 2009-10.
  • Being the second largest Rotaract club of Dist 3230 with 700 plus Rotaractors, the active Rotaractors of Dr.MGR Janaki left their indelible mark wherever they went be it in the highest registration for WOW the District Rotaract conference or in executing mega district projects like Shiksha or innovativeness “Make Art or Stop AIDS” or in bold endeavours’ like spreading 3 days out in a village at RYLA or in combining the power of strength in executing projects jointly with parent club be it in blood donation drive on 9th Dec’09 or in Polio eradication Walkathons with parent club in spreading Health awareness or in learning from juniors by DR.MGR Rotaractors learning from Avvai Home to stage street plays ably egged on and guided by Rtn.Anand the youth service Director and Rtn.Jeeva the Director Community Service Health and supported financially by the parent club.
  • Both the Rotaract clubs were actively involved in key projects of parent club.
  • RYLA: A 3 day RYLA organised at Nainar Kuppam Village wherein 50 Rotaractors of Dr.MGR Janaki college spent 3 D/2N at the village. Eminent speakers like PDG Rtn.Subbu motivated them to set loftier goals and develop a can do attitude. RCMC instituted the Best Rylerian award. Village literacy survey was undertaken and the rotaractors served as volunteers at the medical camp organised for the elderly, women and children at the camp site.
  • Club Service: Seven young members from diverse back grounds were invited to join RCMC on the basis of invitations extended by members lowering the average age as well as well as broad basing the club and increasing the membership strength by 15% making the membership cross the half century mark for the first time .
  • The regular weekly speaker meetings at the picturesque boat club ambience on a a Sunday morning over breakfast in which eminent speakers from diverse fields speak to an interested and intelligent audience continued to be the hall mark of RCMC.
  • The colourful fortnightly bulletin CONCH covered international events, district events, club events and events from personal lives of rotarians making it an eagerly looked forward to news letter and credit goes to green rotarian Gomathi Reddy and her editorial team.
  • New bench marks in club governance were set by monthly board meetings held at Directors’ residences by rotation to forge a closer bond amongst the board and committee chairs to reach consensual decisions.
  • Monthly fellowships were held at member residences, Boat club, Alumni club, Cosmo club as well as ECR resorts. Fellowships had the distinct musical character what with our very own Rtn.O.S.Arun encouraging rotarians and Anns to join in the singing.
  • A 2 day outbound fellowship was held at Golden Sun Beach resort in Nov’09 which gave an opportunity to members and their families to get to know each other more closely and enjoy the bond of friendship & bonhomie.
  • Annets of RCMC scaled new heights doing not only their parents but the entire RCMC proud.
  • International Service: Our club Rotarians Bala, Ravi and Anjaiah continued to be wonderful hosts not only for Semester at Sea students and GSE team members but also for GSE team leaders and club annet Ajay Subramanian was shortlisted for the semester at sea program as a standby.
    Rtn.PP.Subbu joined the Srilankan delegation of the district in Sept09 and renewed the sister club arrangement with Rotary club of Colombo Regal. A standard Operating procedure with sister club was developed.
  • District Events: Club actively took part in district events be it in serious sessions like Peace conference “Resolving Conflict” or in lighter moments like the Rotary Ball or in organising district events. Senior Rotarians of our club took active role in District events what with Rtn.PP.Subbu organising the district assembly preparing the officers of RY 2009-10 for an eventful year ahead assisted ably by Rtn.PP.Arun and Rtn.Anand and Rtn.Srikumar.
  • Honorary member Lt.Gen(Retd) Sundaraao was a constant driver for club to achieve several new mile stones be it in establishing an archive or formulating an SOP with sister club or setting new bench marks in club governance.
  • RCMC is proud that Rtn.PP.Srinivasan a coromandelian will be the donning the mantle AG for RY 2010-11 and Rtn. Pandu would be District associate chairman polo plus.
  • TRF: The club contributed US $ 5550 to TRF as against the commitment given for US $ 3000 by President at PETS. For the first time under Rtn.Balas’ initiative as the TRF chair, sustaining member contributions for Rotary was commenced by RCMC by more than dozen members with a view to becoming a 100% PHF club soon.
  • Awards and Recognition from District: RCMC was given the Platinum Award - the best performance category award for overall performance and placed along with other well recognized clubs of District 3230 at a glittering function organized by the District at Taj Coromandel on 4th June with the performance categorisation being Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

  • All this was possible due to the unstinted support and co-operation extended by members and the board throughout the rotary year 2009-10.
  • One can be sure that Best is yet to come and club is heading to set new benchmarks in the coming year what with bettering performance year after year having become an habit of Coromandelians.
