Soumya Tilak is the prime disciple of Dr. R. Vijay Madhavan. She has performed in prestigious venues in Chennai, such as Brahma Gana Sabha, Kartik Fine Arts, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine Arts, Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, Natyanjali Trust, etc. She has been well appreciated by critics and connoisseurs alike and has won several awards, most notable being the Best Dancer Award by VDS Arts Academy, Outstanding Performance by Samskara Bharati, Meritorious Performance by Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha etc. She also has the credit of being the recipient of the VDS Arts Academy Scholarship three times. Though currently settled in San Jose, California, Soumya visits Chennai regularly to perform during the prestigious Margazhi Music and Dance Festival. Soumya is the artistic director of Shreeja Dance Academy, San Jose, a satellite of her Guru's institution, Rechita Nrutyalaya.
