Martin - Artist Profile
Martin is a classically trained Tabla and multi percussion artist from Chennai. He started learning basics of Hindustani tabla at the age of 5 under his father Sri. A. Babu. Banaras Gharana.. He is continuing advanced learning under tabla Shri. Chandrajith Farrukhabada Ghana a renowned tabla artist.
He plays an arsenal of Indian percussion such as Tabla, Dholak, Dholki, Phakwaj, Mridangam, Kanjeera, Ghatam, Tape, Duff, Urumi, Tavil and also other misc high percussions. He also plays Latin,Arabic and world percussion such as Cajon, Djembe, Darbouka, Conga, Bongoes, Tumba and electronic rhythm pads. He is also a rhythm programmer for recording sessions.
Martin has played as an accompanying artist for various genres like Hindustani, Carnatic, Light music, Jugalbandhi, Folk, Fusion, Contemporary and world music, for both recordings and live concerts.
He has been playing for the past 14 years and has immense experience in playing for classical dances, theater shows and background scores for films.
He has played over 1000 shows around the world and is a BI grade artist of All India Radio. Some of the prominent artists with whom he has performed include Hariharan, SPB, Mano, Chinmaye,Sri Ram Parasuram, Anuradha Sriram, Prasanna, Tippu, Harini, Ananthu, Pradeep, Sean Roldan, OS Arun, Thavil Shri A K palanivel , Sivamani,Rajesh Vaidhya, Navneeth Sundar, Flute Naveen and so on.
He has also played in films for songs and background scores for prominent music directors such as Sarath, James Vasanthan, Deva, Sabesh Murali, Srikanth Deva, Shankar Ganesh, Sean Roldan, Dharan, Nivas Prasanna, Leon James, Navneeth Sundar, Prakash Nikki and various other independent artists across India.
He has also been performing with many of the airtel super singers in their live concerts.
He has performed in various special TV music shows in Raj TV, Sun TV, Vijay TV, colours tv, Zee TAMIL, DD podhigai, Pudhiya Thalaimurai, Kalaignar TV etc.
He has travelled to various countries like Singapore, Middle East, Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Malaysia and has performed over 200 concerts and music workshops.
