Dr. Rukmani Kannan M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D in music, a trained music teacher. She had her teacher's training at the Music Academy, Madras. She had her initial vocal and veena lessons from her aunt Smt. Geetha Ragunathan and later continued veena lessons from Salem G. Desikan and Smt. Nirmala Parthasarathi. She continued her vocal lessons from various gurus and at present having vocal guidance from Kalaimamani Dr. Prema Rangarajan. She has given performances on veena in various sabhas in Chennai. She has also given vocal performances in sabhas, shrines and social get togethers. She has been awarded the Senior fellowship by Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for her project "An insight into the Contribution of yesteryear Vainikas to Carnatic music". She has also presented papers and lecture demonstrations in many National and International Music Conferences held in Mysore, Bangalore, Madurai and few more.
